About the Board

Lucy Voegele:

I'm Lucy, a Cincinnati native and nature enthusiast. I can often be found walking and hiking in and around Cincinnati. I am currently the Business Coordinator for Cincinnati Children's Hospital where I oversee the daily administrative functions of an education department. I was introduced to Power Inspires Progress and Venice on Vine by both friends involved with PIP and friends of the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur. I see the PIP changing people's lives - I see it giving people confidence in their ability to have and hold a job. The individuals gaining on the job training at Venice on Vine are an inspiration to me - they show me the value of and pride in a hard day's work!

Nick Shaver:

I moved here from Texas about 4 years ago to work as an engineer for GE. I currently live in Mt. Auburn and have been involved with Power Inspires Progress since my first year in Cincinnati. I began as a tutor and am now on the business committee which helps Venice Pizza continuously increase pizza sales. I enjoy supporting the mission of PIP because of the great impact they have on the trainees and the opportunity it gives consumers to contribute to a good cause through their purchases of Venice Pizza and Venice Catering."

Melissa Back:

I am a Cincinnati native. I attended the University of Cincinnati as an Interior Design major and graduated in 2009. I then did a year of service with Public Allies at the YWCA's Family Violence Prevention Project. There I had a chance to use my graphic design skills to create and implement a public awareness campaign aimed at preventing teen dating violence. My second year of Americorps was spent with Notre Dame Mission Voluteers at Santa Maria Community Services. I was a casemanager for indiviuals and families facing eviction. I am now living and working in OTR. I just started as the Volunteer Coordinator/Media Specialist at Our Daily Bread. I am very excited to be joining the board and working to improve and sustain PIP.

Karen Kearney:

I am originally from Cleveland, Ohio, and have lived in Cincinnati for almost 2 years. I attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison for undergrad, and I still love and miss Wisconsin! I currently live in Pendleton and work as the Social Services Program Manager for the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. I love cities and old buildings, and have really enjoyed getting to know the people and places that make Cincinnati special. I am an enthusiastic supporter of PIP's mission to empower adults with employment barriers, and love the opportunity that being part of the PIP board gives me to contribute to that mission!

Bill Schlater: I quite literally stumbled upon Venice on Vine, and eventually PIP, while leading a group of students on a Mission Trip in Over-the-Rhine. As a Religion teacher at St. Xavier High School, I had the opportunity to go on this immersion experience and one evening we stopped to eat at the restaurant. As part of our meal we were introduced to a number of the trainees who not only gave us wonderful service but gave us a witness about the transformation happening in their lives because of their involvement in PIP. My students were in awe and it became a true watershed moment in out Mission Trip. My name is Bill Schlater, have been on the Board of PIP for three years and I'm thrilled to be a part of this exciting mission.

Yvonne Bradley:

I was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio. I have two adult children, Elonda and Tyler; they are my pride and joy. I am a family oriented person, who believes that “the family that prays together stays together.” I graduated from Venice on Vine, on-the-job training program on December 28, 2010. I am a second year student at Cincinnati State Technical and Community College with an expected graduation date of June 2012; with a degree in Business Management Technology (BM.AAB). My goal is then to transfer to Wilmington College to pursue a Bachelor of Business Administration. My long term goal is to eventually own and manage a transitional housing unit, for women seeking shelter after completing a treatment program in the hopes of sustaining adequate housing and employment. My hobbies include being an active member in my church and going to the gym to exercise. I also enjoy reading. I am excited to join the Power Inspires Progress board and can’t wait to learn and contribute to the cause.

S. Maureen Heverin, SC.

I was born and raised in Cincinnati but have taught and ministered in Maryland, Kentucky and Xenia, Ohio before returning to the Cincinnati area 12 years ago. My connection with PIP started years ago when I met Sisters Barbara Wheeler and Judy Tensing and was impressed with their compassion, creative problem solving and drive to help folks reach their potential in every way. Sister Judy is still very involved with the catering and Rina Saperstein has assumed the responsibility of leading PIP with compassion, fresh creativity and the same drive to help people help themselves. The staff, members of the board, many volunteers and the trainees bring the slogan “Good food for a good cause” to life every day at Venice on Vine.

Sally Slattery:

I'm recently retired (I think?) as a Regional Marketing Manager for a Senior Healthcare Corporation and am about knee deep in new activities. With previous background as a Social Worker, I tend toward volunteer activities that promote personal and community growth. I have been involved with Cincinnati Area Senior Services; Women Helping Women; Interfaith Hospitality Network, Guardianship Assistance Program and various literacy and tutoring projects. Other interests include travel, horses, gardening, reading, trying to exercise and keeping up with seven grandchildren. I look forward to becoming involved and contributing to the goals of PIP.
